Amazon Barcode Requirements
Using Barcodes on Amazon (Updated 2026 Policy)
Amazon has updated its barcode requirements in early 2026 and now appears to only accept barcodes purchased directly from GS1 that are registered in the seller’s company name.
Barcodes supplied by reseller companies (including ours) are genuine, globally unique, and suitable for use in most retail environments worldwide. However, they are not registered to your company in the GS1 database, and as a result, Amazon may reject them when creating new product listings.
This is due to Amazon now verifying barcode ownership against the GS1 database and requiring the registered company name to match the brand or seller account.
If you intend to sell on Amazon, you will likely need to obtain barcodes directly from GS1 so they are registered to your business. In some cases, Amazon may allow you to apply for a GTIN exemption instead of using a barcode.
Important: We recommend confirming Amazon’s current barcode requirements before purchasing or applying barcodes to your product packaging, as changes to their policy can impact listing eligibility.
Our barcodes remain suitable for use in the vast majority of other online marketplaces and physical retail stores.
